How to Save Money When Printing Your Greeting Card Line

As a small business you need to find ways to cut costs anywhere you can. If your small business is creating and producing greeting cards, you’ll want to keep the cost of printing your cards as low as possible while still maintaining a high quality product. Once you have your card pricing nailed down with a good printer, you can focus on what is important: selling those bad boys.

One of the biggest factors impacting price is the amount of greeting cards you order. The more cards you order, the less per piece your cards will be. If you are trying to get your pricing down to $0.50 per card you may find that you need to order over 1,000 cards at a time. Get a quote for a few different quantities such as 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,500 and you will see the per piece price drop drastically from 250 to 2,500.

The amount of versions of each card design you have will affect your price too. Every version you supply creates more set up for pre-press. Therefore ordering 500 greeting cards of 1 version will be cheaper than ordering 100 greeting cards of 5 versions even though it is the same quantity.

Another good trick to save some cash is to request that your greeting cards be scored in the center but not folded. Ask to receive your cards flat only if you have the time and energy to fold the cards yourself. It is mindless work since the cards are already scored. Just sit in front of the T.V. and fold the cards in half yourself. You’ll be saving money before your show even ends.

You can also save a few pennies if you are flexible with your turn around time. If you need your cards within one day of ordering, you are going to pay rush charges with your printer. If you are able to wait a few days then you can avoid these charges.
